History Lesson
It
is rumored that the Shakers built the house's foundation
in the 1700 right before the state of New York bought the
property to be used as one of the first schoolhouse in Columbia
County. Three of our guest rooms, Blair, Pocket & Gabor,
were used as classrooms.
After the War of 1812 the state deeded the property to Colonel
Alan Spencer as payment for his service in the war. The
Spencers owned and lived in the house for about 150 years,
utilizing it's large parcel for farming.
It
was then sold to the Soldato family who eventually turned
the house into a B&B and still own it to this day.
